The charge controller regulates the charging of batteries connected to the solar panels. It ensures that the batteries receive the correct voltage and current from the solar panels, preventing overcharging or deep discharge which can damage the batteries. Charge controllers come in two main types: PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) and MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking). MPPT controllers are more efficient as they actively adjust the voltage and current to extract maximum power from the solar panels under varying sunlight conditions.
Once the batteries are charged, the inverter converts the DC electricity stored in the batteries into AC electricity suitable for powering household appliances or feeding into the electrical grid. Inverters also synchronize with the grid’s frequency and voltage to ensure seamless integration and stable operation.
Together, the charge controller and inverter enable efficient energy management in solar PV systems. They maximize the use of solar energy by storing excess electricity in batteries for use during periods of low sunlight or high energy demand. This setup reduces reliance on grid electricity, lowers utility bills, and contributes to sustainable energy practices.
Advancements in technology have led to the development of hybrid inverters that integrate additional features such as grid-tie capabilities and battery backup systems, further enhancing the flexibility and efficiency of solar PV installations for residential, commercial, and industrial applications.
