What is Solar Panel Scheme?
The Solar Panel Scheme is a step taken by Government of India to provide free power to homes. On February 15, 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, under this yojana households will receive subsidies to put solar panels on their rooftops. Up to 40% of the cost of the solar panels will be covered by the subsidy. It is projected that this scheme will help about one crore Indian households and reduce the government’s yearly electricity costs by Rs. 75,000 crore.

Who is Eligible for Solar Panel Scheme ?
- An individual should be an Indian citizen.
- An individual should not availed any other subsidy for solar panels.
- An individual should own the house with a rooftop that is suitable for installing solar panels.
- An individual should have a valid electricity connection.
Documents required for the scheme are :
- House registration documents under owner name.
- Proof of identity ( Aadhar card, Voter id, Pan card & Driving Liecence)
- Proof of address.
- Electricity bill.
How to Apply for Solar Panel Scheme ?
Below are the steps to apply for the scheme:
- Initially Go to the official website https://www.pmsuryaghar.gov.in/
- Next Click on “Apply for Rooftop Solar”.
- Then enter your customer account number and select your state, district, and power distribution provider. Then, click the ‘Next’ icon.
- Subsequent To finish the registration process, enter your email address and mobile number and follow the remaining steps.
- Following After completing the registration process, use your mobile number and customer account number to log in.
- Afterwards Wait for the approval from DISCOM (Distribution Companies). Install the solar panel plant from a registered vendor as soon as it is approved. By clicking here you can find registered vendors in your locality. just you have to enter your state on the search bar of the page.
- Later Submit the plant details and make an application for a net meter after installation is complete.
- Subsequently A commissioning certificate will be available online shortly following the net meter installation and DISCOM inspection.
- Finally Once you get the commissioning report, submit your bank account details and a cancelled cheque by logging into the portal. You will receive the subsidy in your bank account within 30 working days.
